Descendants Party Food

Like many girls in her age group, my daughter is absolutely bonkers over Disney’s Descendants. She knows all of the songs, most of the dialogue, many of the dances, and has a couple of character costumes. As soon as she heard that Descendants 3 had been given the green light, she knew that she wanted to have a party with her friends to watch the premiere. I thought the idea of a premiere/release party was a great idea and planned all of the Descendants party food based on characters, foods that are seen or mentioned in the first two movies, as well as a play on words.

Basing food on the Descendants movies is quite simple since there are so many foods in the movies. The hard part was deciding which ones to use, especially since so many of them are loaded with sugar. With a couple of food items, we went with something that we could tie into a character rather than a specific food from the movies.

To tie things together even further, I made food tents that gave the food a name from from the movie and with the character or characters related to it.

Sweet Options Abound for Descendants Party Food

There are so many sweet options for Descendants party food that we had a hard time choosing.

In Descendants 2, Dizzy asks Evie, “What does ice cream taste like?” Not wanting to have ice cream melting on the food table, I put cups and spoons next to Dizzy’s “What does ice cream taste like?” food tent. When it was time to serve the ice cream, I instructed the party goers that anyone that wanted ice cream should grab a cup and spoon and meet me in the kitchen.

In the original Descendants movie, Mal needs one tear of human sadness to complete a recipe to put a love spell on Ben. Lonnie comes into the kitchen where the VKs are mixing up the recipe and starts to cry when she realizes that they’ve never felt the love of a parent. Mal wipes one tear of human sadness from Lonnie’s cheek & slings it in the bowl before pushing Lonnie out of the kitchen, wishing her evil dreams.

I used my Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe for the One Tear of Human Sadness Cookies.

No Descendants dessert spread would be complete without First Date Jelly donuts from Descendants 1…

…or gummy bears in a shout out to Descendants’ lovable canine, Dude.

Options that we thought of, but did not use include a candy buffet like the one that is in the limo, cupcakes that Mal baked to break the love spell she placed on Ben, & a chocolate fountain like the one at the luncheon in the original Descendants. I also considered Peanut Butter & Jelly Is My Favorite sandwiches for Ben. In the end, I decided that Ben was already represented a couple of times on the table, jelly would be adding yet another sweet element, and what if one of our guests had a peanut allergy.

Bring in Fresh Options Based on Character

Mal’s new found love of strawberries and Evie’s mother being the Evil Queen were a great way to add in a little bit of fresh produce! I placed the apples cupcake style on a stand made by Wilton. My stand holds 13 apples, but they also make a larger one that will hold 23, if you are having a large party.

Uma’s Fish & Chips

In Descendants 2, Uma runs Fish & Chips, her mother, Ursula’s restaurant. For this one, I did a play on Fish & Chips with goldfish crackers and potato chips. Much more party friendly than actual fish and potatoes.

Does an Ogre Like Cheese Puffs?

Cheese puffs are a party food mainstay. Even though cheese puffs aren’t actually seen or eaten in any of the movies, when Ben asks Mal if she likes the scooter he gives her, she responds with, “Does an ogre like cheese puffs!” I bought Simply Cheetos Puffs to avoid artificial colors.

Hot Dogs with a Twist

Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil, was the hardest character to represent in food. Because of the character’s tie to dogs, we went with hot dogs wrapped in a crescent dough twist. Normally called pigs in a blanket, we called them Hot Dogs with a Twist.

Gil Loves Eggs

Descendants fans know that Gil likes eggs just as much as his dad, Gaston. Rather than just setting out a bowl of boiled eggs like we see Gil eating in Descendants 2, I made deviled eggs.

If you’ve seen Descendants 1, then you know that Jay enjoys having Victory Pizza with the Team!

Staying Hydrated

There was enough sugar on the table, I did not want to add more in liquid form. Rather than punch or sodas, I made labels to go on water bottles to keep everyone hydrated.

Another option would be serving water from a glass dispenser and labeling it “Enchanted Lake Water”. Since that is not the route we took with this party, I did not make a food tent for it. If you choose to go with it, I would use Jane as the character and tie it in with Descendants 3.

Activity Based on a Character

As part of the festivities, the girls painted their nails at Dizzy’s Curl Up & Dye pop-up nail salon.

I made most of the food tents, as well as the Curl Up & Dye sign with images that I purchased online from Etsy. Click on the links below to purchase the PDF files of the food tents & Curl Up & Dye sign, as well as a sign for Mal’s Art Studio. I decided at the last minute to scratch the art studio for party activities, but have included the download for the sign below.

  • Pricing:
  • Food Tents – $3.00
  • Curl Up & Dye sign – $1.00
  • Mal’s Art Studio sign – $1.00
